It’s over! It went rather well at the same time, so I think it’s hit the union night tonight.

Presentations

March 7th, 2007 No comments

I’ve done a fair few of these in my time, whether Powerpoint or old school, group or just me being told to talk to a large group of people at random. Some were terrible, but mostly I managed to get through it. I’ve got one on Friday, and I’m not usually this nervous.

This may be due to the “invited guests” who “usually ask questions”. It may be that the lecture theatres at Uni are slightly larger than my English classroom. It may, most likely, be that I can’t remember how I usually feel before presentations.

At the end of the day, however, I have no real reason to worry. Our group (8, 3 of us speaking) has spend somewhere around 9 hours working on this so I’m more than prepared.

Some of my friends are performers who’ve stood up in front of many a crowd on their own. I don’t know whether they feel extremely nervous before or get used to it. Hopefully, it’ll all be fine and we won’t (despite my suspicious) be the last or worst group to present. Hopefully.

Water

March 6th, 2007 7 comments

I like water. It’s particularly useful for throwing around a flat at people. Greatly relieves tension. Even better, it doesn’t need much cleaning. This happened tonight (I blame the increased sugar intake) in my flat, which has 4 1st years and 1 3rd year (all male). Guess who the target was?

The problem is there is a lot of tension in our flat right now. Mostly due to relationships. I have no particular dislike of couples. I’ve been there and it can be awkward trying to incorporate 1 or 2 more people. Two of my flatmates have a girlfriend at the moment. One couple are very discrete and happily socialise with the rest of us. The other couple do so rarely. Right now is around the time that we need to plan for accommodation for next year, and it’s making things difficult. I have no wish to live with a couple. Do we include the unsocialising flatmate next year? Probably, but it might lead to more awkwardness.

At least water can help. It inspired the banner for this blog. Not 100% sold on it, but I’ll leave it for a bit. I should point out I’ll probably posts lots for the first few days, just so everyone has a clue what’s going on.

My (new) blog!

March 6th, 2007 3 comments

I’ve had a few blogs in the past. My first was mainly a test of the blog software I wrote. The second was my trying to be more disciplined about blog posting by starting from scratch. It failed. However, recently I’ve been feeling the need to vent. Blogs are great for this, and I always planned on starting a proper one (one I didn’t write). Since I struck it rich I decided to get myself one of these proper things. So here it is.

And now I have a problem. I’ve always kind of been apart of 2 separate lives – online and off. You could class my online persona as the geek and the offline as everything else. I tend to do that, and have done for the last however many years I’ve been active on here. The truth is, noone offline really cares that I used a class in PHP for the first time, so why bother telling them? Similarly, noone online really cares that I’ve got an interview for Uni (that was a while ago, just an example). However, I’ve decided it’s time the two versions of me finally meet. And this is the point of this blog. I don’t know who will read it, perhaps noone. If you do read this, I hope you’ll be willing to spare the side of me you don’t know – maybe you’ll enjoy it.

And if not, I’m not too fussed.
It’s my life, and it’s now or never. So said a good song.
