8 days to go

Until these exams will be over. I really wish it was sooner as I’m totally fed up trying to revise the same stuff over and over. Unfortunately it seems the rest of Scotland has actually finished exams and here’s my trailing along on the end. Only people worse off than us is the 2nd years who’ve got an extra week and an OSCE to add to an already hellish year (which, obviously, I’m eagerly looking forward to…).

Still no flat for next year although I’m hoping this week is going to be it. And really, we don’t have much choice as one flatmate is off on holiday this time next week. If we don’t get something sorted it’ll mean coming back through here throughout the summer for viewings. Not too bad for me but another flatmate is going back to Newcastle where it’s a little more tricky.

Last week saw the end to season 3 of Lost. It was a reasonably decent end to an OK season. Sure they put a spin on it and made it a little different but it’ll never have the same impact as season 1. The did announce there will only be 48 more episodes (although they’re dragging this out to 3 more seasons…I can only assume for money) which I guess lets them finish it the way it’s meant to be finished. Sadly I don’t think they’ll find an ending to explain everything and especially not everything that some people have discovered. When the aliens start to land I’m switching off.

Much like I did with ER. I was a faithful viewer until series 13 but now it seems to be running story arcs all over again with different casts. I remain convinced they should have ended this when Carter left, much like Friends (kind of) did with Rachel. I’ve been watching some classic ER recently and the latest series is simply no where near it.

House, on the other hand, may be going the same way a lot quicker. The season final is this week and I’m going to be judging the whole series based on it (fair? probably not). I like House, it’s new and quite different from other medical dramas. Plus add in that it actually is based on real diseases (much like ER used to be). The problem with this is not everyone really wants to know all about the details of extremely rare diseases and I guess they need to add in extra stuff to keep it going. So far, I’ve not turned it off so it might last a little bit longer.

Since I’m moaning about medical dramas I may as well throw in Casualty and Holby. Credit where it’s due, Casualty is probably one of the major factors which got me where I am now (though it wasn’t mentioned in my interview!). I’ll leave my future patients and colleagues to judge whether this is an achievement for Casualty or not. Today, however, Casualty just doesn’t seem to cut it compared to the above. This may have something to do with the UK’s (particularly the BBC’s) inability to create drama. True, I haven’t watched an episode in a while but I don’t imagine it’s changed much. If Charlie ever leaves, I’d watch that.

Holby I liked more as I got to see it start (Casualty having started 2 years before my birth!) and I can’t deny cardiothoracic surgery is damn cool. Haven’t watched it recently so I probably can’t be too judgemental about it. I do miss Meyer though and probably wouldn’t relate it to the original if I watched it now.

Humm, that’s a lot of TV talk, especially since I don’t have a TV.

Holby is GODLY, although Diane is leaving soon and I’ll be really upset. I rate Holby far above Casualty (which prescribes EVERY SINGLE PATIENT 100mg tramadol and 20mg cyclizine - that is the extent of the Casualty pharmacy it seems).

I liked ER too, but agree that it has gone somewhat downhill. I watched an episode last week and didn’t recognise half of the cast, but oh well…

    Thoughts on Scrubs?

Scrubs is worth watching now and again just for the comedy value but I don’t really see it as something I’d watch religiously the whole series through.

I should add that the season final of series 3 for House is beyond excellent. If you’ve not kept up with the rest of season 3 that doesn’t really matter as long as you see the final.
